Fulfilling Her Purpose

Jean Ford

At age 10, Jean Ford new that she was destined to be in some type of political office.  “I was always interested in government since I was in the fourth grade.   Back then, I didn’t think about being a political figure, but when the occasion arose later in my life, I took the opportunity and bid on a City Council seat.   I sat on the Williamstown City Council for seven years.   In my seventh year, the Mayor of Williamstown became ill, and I was appointed the acting Mayor until his term ended which was about four months,” she said. 

She added, “It was then, that I knew that I wanted to be a political leader, so I ran for the office of Mayor and I won.   That was in l997, and I have loved every minute of being the Mayor of Williamstown.  I was just recently re-elected to serve for two more years as Mayor.”

Making a Difference by Helping Businesses

Senator Karen Facemeyer

Senator Karen Facemyer, Republican representative for Jackson, Mason, Putnam and part of Roane county didn’t start out wanting to be a politician. But one day in 1992, she was sitting with her husband watching her two boys play while reading the newspaper, when her husband voiced his uneasiness about the fact that there was no one in public office that was helping the small business person in West Virginia. It took Karen about two minutes to decide that she just couldn’t wait and hope that someone would be elected that had the small business person’s interest at heart. “I thought to my self, we’ll someone needs to do this and it might as well be me.”

A Role Model in Changing Lives

 

“Having a wonderful educational opportunity changes people’s lives. People can get a good job and provide for their family. Having good available education elevates people out of poverty.” This is one of Jennifer Garrison’s key beliefs. Representative Garrison is the Democratic State Representative for Noble, Monroe, Guernsey and parts of Muskingum and Washington counties in Ohio.
