Gray skies, falling snow, naked trees, hard winds blow…warm
quilts, soft sweaters, hot soups, homemade bread.
Stuffy heads, dry skin, gaining pounds, depression sets in…hot
yoga, building bones, flexible joints, and your energy begins!
This winter, step out of the cold and into the warmth at the Bikram
Yoga Studio in Parkersburg. There are four main reasons Old Man Winter
loves to do Bikram Yoga!
The first reason is simple, energy and strength. When the sun is hidden
for days behind enormous, gray clouds our bodies and minds are quickly
zapped of motivation and enthusiasm. 90 minutes of heated yoga helps
restore the body’s natural warmth and energy. The heat helps
to detoxify all the tissues in the body revitalizing organs and glands
such as the liver, kidneys, pancreas, colon, thyroids and adrenal
glands. When we sweat, we release toxins and waste, refreshing cells
throughout the body with nutrients and oxygen. This helps keep every
system in the body working together efficiently all year round.
The second reason Old Man Winter practices Bikram Yoga is to keep
his skin looking healthy and his weight under control. The heat helps
the body sweat. The sweat re-hydrates dry, itchy skin. By the time
you have completed a 90 minute class your cheeks are glowing pink
and rosy not wind blown and chapped. If you need to lose a few inches
left behind from the holidays the yoga can help. Practicing yoga in
a heated room helps to sweat off extra pounds. Reorganizing fats and
lipids on a cellular level helps keep the body in its natural, healthy
shape. Allowing the real you shine through that healthy glowing skin.
A third reason, and an important thing to remember if you’re
worried about the temperature, is that by warming the muscles with
the heat we are naturally and safely becoming more flexible. Just
like heating metal before molding it, the body needs to be warm so
the muscle fibers are protected allowing you to move into a deeper
stretch and releasing you further into flexibility.
The forth and final reason Old Man Winter attends class? To keep
a strong and positive mental attitude. Instead of grumbling all day
at the snow falling, you will hum a merry tune. Instead of sleeping
your weekends away, you will be motivated and energized.
This positive energy will start affecting your every day life. This
Valentine's day treat yourself to some yoga and put the chocolates
aside. There are classes everyday that can be the beginning to a new
and improved you.
