The Art of Touch

Massage can easily claim to be the oldest form of healing and relaxation in existence today. Written records mentioning massage date back some 5,000 years, every culture throughout history has used massage in some form or other. It is common language in every culture past to present.

Research is proving the extraordinary effectiveness of touch. Touch is the first sense to develop in a newborn, and often the last sense to leave us as we age. Touch is an instinctive response to pain. Touch gives comfort. Touch is the core of massage.
Massage can be defined as a systematic form of touch; which includes stroking, kneading pressing and holding the soft tissues of the body in order to induce the state of total relaxation.

Relaxation is an essential need to well-being. A good massage affects one on various levels; physically it can provide soothing relaxation and may also be used for deeper therapy treating specific physical problems. Massage may relieve stress and anxiety on one level but will also increase blood supply to the tissues. Thus, increasing the interchanges of substances between the blood and target tissues, heightening their oxygenation.

The psychological comfort of touch has been proven to play an important role in overall well being. This helps people to become more aware of our bodies as a whole. As a stress reliever massage has no equal. Regular massage is one of the best ways to avoid stress-related illness. However there is no need to wait for an ailment or injury to receive a massage.

Throughout the field of massage therapy, many facets of massage exist. These areas include; Asian bodywork, sports massage, energy work, aromatherapy, craniosacral therapy, and Swedish massage (the grandfather of massage). The general practices of massages are Swedish based.

Alex-Alexa Medispa is now offering their clients massage therapy. This medispa not only provides their clients the luxury of spa treatments, but also differs from typical spas by offering clients a more sophisticated medically prescribed array of skin care products.

Everyone needs to relax and escape the pressures of our fast-paced society, a medispa can be that escape.
