In the Neck of Time
Even a young woman tends to take care of her face at least a little and a new line or incipient wrinkle will send a woman of any age scurrying for her creams and lotions.
Unfortunately, the one area that is often neglected is between the tip of her chin and the beginning of her decollatage. The neck is most vulnerable to aging lines, unwanted folds and double chins. Although most women spend a great deal of time worrying about the appearance of their face, they often overlook their neck, which is even more susceptible to wrinkles because the skin there is so thin. It is certainly prone to damage from sun, tanning beds and other light rays.
Aging, and simple gravity, which pulls skin downward, can cause the neck area to sag. The support system is compromised, leaving the neck area loose. Even brilliant makeup techniques cannot disguise the results of time and inattention to the neck. A woman whose face is well groomed and well-maintained often looks more youthful than actual years would suggest, but the illusion can be fleeting if her neck does not reflect the same care.
Daily nourishment and gentle care of the neck area is a must when planning for a more youthful appearance.
A double chin can be particularly challenging. Excess body weight, water retention, a hereditary disposition and the normal maturity process all contribute to the development of a double chin. A family trait and the mere fact of aging are hard to fight, but body weight and water retention are more easily addressed. Reduced circulation in the under-chin area can often cause a build up of metabolic waste that causes the area to bloat or swell. Although it may not be possible to eliminate the condition completely, women can have success shrinking a double chin by losing weight, increasing fruit and vegetables in their diet, and replacing fast food grease with healthy omega 3 fatty acids found in fish and walnuts.
One way to soften skin from the inside out is to include well balanced Omega 3/Omega 6 oils, like sunflower oil and safflower oil, in food preparation. Adequate hydration, as much as eight cups of water a day, can also be beneficial. Sleeping without a pillow seems to help in preventing double chins.
Some women find their neck tone is improved with facial exercises directed at tightening the neck muscles.
For a graceful neck, a woman should make a point of holding her head up. It improves the posture, is good for the neck and, tends to tighten the entire neckline.
For two minutes each day, before a bath, massage the neck area with downward strokes, one hand following the other, using any cream or skin oil. When applying a facial mask, apply it to the neck area as well.
The best way to heal neck wrinkles is to treat the neck as an extension of the face. Use gentle cleansers, a light touch, soft cloths, and no astringents. Apply creams and moisturizing lotions often and regularly.
Cosmetic surgery or suction can be the last resort, but there are other remedies to try first.
