Facing Facts
With rising gas prices, going places can get expensive and looking good has always cost money, but the price of gas may make looking good cost even more. Cosmetics prices are quite likely to go up, since surprisingly, petroleum-based ingredients are some of the leading ingredients in most over the counter cosmetics.
The total listings of ingredients in cosmetics are closely guarded secrets and loopholes in federal law allow the $35 billion cosmetics industry to put unlimited amounts of chemicals into personal care products with no required testing, no monitoring of health effects and minimal labeling requirements. Only 11% of personal care products have been evaluated for safety.
It might not matter and probably is little cause for concern. The idea of toxic eyeshadow is fairly far-fetched. And, killer blush is probably a stretch. Still, some research has found the average women will consume between 4 to 6 pounds of lipstick during her lifetime. More research is clearly needed, and women should have the option of knowing what they are applying to their delicate faces. All that petroleum might be why women develop cellulite!
