Fall into Beauty

October is a transition month for most women. Summer tans have faded and the pallor of winter hasn’t quite set in. A new shade of foundation may be necessary for women to look their best. Most women need one shade for summer and one for winter, but one shade in between may keep complexions from looking more Halloween than happy.

The wonderful hint of fall is cooler air that can rob skin of moisture. Invest in a good quality moisturizer before really cold weather. Aveeno, Olay, Loreal and Eucerin have effective, eminently affordable moisturizer products. For a little more, Neutrogena, Clinique and of course, Lancone also have excellent choices.

Eyes and lips will benefit from a little loving care from old fashioned Vaseline. A little on the eyes is perfect for removing makeup and protects the delicate skin around the eyes. Slather a little on dry lips two or three times a day for a kissable, comfortable smile. Try gloss instead of lipstick for a natural, fresh-as-all- outdoors look on autumn walks.

Cool weather leads to socks, hosiery, leotards and boots. Get toes and feet in shape with a home pedicure. Soak feet in warm water and dry well. Trim nails straight across. For those with a tendency to develop ingrown toenails, trim a slight U shaped curve in the big toenail or file just the middle of the toenail from the cuticle to the nail edge. Use a pumice stone on rough spots, and exfoliate soles to help slough off dead skin and keep feet (and socks) smelling fresh. Apply an unscented, non greasy body lotion before slipping on footwear. Wear slippers or shoes for safety and support even in the house.

The fashion trends for fall include chunky knit sweaters worn with delicate dresses to fine-gauge sweater knit skirt suits. Draped or over sized sweater knits are the fashion for Fall 06, in neutrals like ivory, gray and black. Pantsuits are back, leggings and tights are acceptable again, and all that is needed to bring an old suit back in style is the wide belt, preferably, black. Vests, loose, small, funky, feminine, beaded or embroidered are also a fresh look for fall. Big bags still have a big bang, and boots are in with everything.
