Get Started With Recycling

If you are one of the many people who say that you don't do recycling because you feel it doesn't make enough difference because you are only one person, think again and get started in recycling.   Recycling helps to save forests from depleting, increases the quality of our water and stimulates the economy.   For those reasons and many more it is important that everyone does what they can to ensure that they are doing their bit for mother earth.

1.    Organize Your Waste - Rather than sticking your rubbish into one place, organized waste in order to recycle it. Glass should be in one place, tins/cans in another, plastics in another, compost in another and have cardboard/paper/newspaper still in another place.

2.    Locate Recycling Facilities Near Your Home - You should find out about the facilities available near your home.   Depending on where you live, you may find it is harder or easier to recycle your waste.   Some places will have a dedicated pick-up to come and take your waste away, while other areas will require that you drive a substantial distance in order to drop it off.   Either way, it is important that you begin recycling.

3.    Recycle Tins/Cans - When recycling tins and cans you should firstly remove all the paper from the outside and try to flatten any sharp edges to limit any risk of being cut. Then place the tins and cans in a dedicated waste bin.

4.    Recycle Plastic - Plastic wrappings and other plastic items should be treated with caution when recycling. Protect any animals being hurt from plastic items by breaking cutting drinks-cans rings so that an animal cannot get their head trapped, as well as ripping open plastic bags so they are just in the form of a single sheet.

5.    Use Compost - Compost should be used to enrich your soil in your garden.   Many people have a compost heap in their garden or back yard. Once you have left the compost for a period of a few weeks, you can use the contents to help fertilize your yard or garden.   If you are unsure about using compost or are doing it for the first time, contact a soil conservation person in your area for ideas and tips.

6.    Recycle Cardboard/Paper/ Newspaper - Cardboard, paper and newspaper is generally the easiest item to recycle because it is the most sought after item. After you read your old newspapers and magazines you should place them inside a dedicated container so that they can later be recycled.

No matter how you start to begin recycling, begin.
