Business Women Speak Up and Out

The Business and Professional Women of the West Virginia Federation will host their state convention in Mineral Wells at the Comfort Suites, April 21-23. Conference activities are open to members and non members.

National president-elect, Nancy Jackson, of Colorado, will address the group at Saturday’s luncheon about Building Powerful Women, Personally, Professionally and Politically. Nancy Jackson is senior group leader for Target Corporation, responsible for the outbound operations of the Pueblo Colorado Distribution Center and a. faculty member at LeTourneau University, where she teaches marketing and management courses.

Keynote speaker Gail Thornhill with WOWK Channel 13 in Charleston will speaking about inspirational women for her presentation Friday evening, building on the theme of the BPW/WV president, Connie Marple, ‘Inspirations’. The Eggs and Issues breakfast beginning at 8 am Saturday morning will be lead by incoming state president, Ann Parsons.

During the three day conference, attendees are invited to participate in workshops and panel discussions and to visit a variety of informational booths. Emma Wilson, the SBA Business Development Specialist for Women’s Business Ownership will be available for one-on one consultations about the opportunities and possibilities for woman entrepreneurs.

BPW/USA, founded in 1919, promotes equity for women in the workplace through advocacy, education and information. With 1,300 Local Organizations across the country and members in every congressional district, BPW/USA is the leading advocate for millions of workingwomen on work-life effectiveness and workplace equity issues. BPW Local Organizations provide members with professional development programs, networking, participation in grassroots activism, and opportunities to support scholarships. There are fifteen local clubs in West Virginia.

According to Ramona Allen Ramsey, First Vice President of the state organization, and secretary-treasurer of the Charleston local, says, “ In April, we will also be promoting pay equity on April 19th, Equal Pay Day. Clubs across the state will be holding events and asking their mayors for additional official proclamations.”
