In recognition of the small business community’s contribution to the American economy and society, the President of the United States designates one week each year as National Small Business Week. The honorees reflect the full range of business products, services and innovations offered by entrepreneurs which are the very heart of the American economy. Small businesses create two-thirds of all net new jobs in the country and the dedication and entrepreneurial spirit exemplified by their principals keep the American dream alive and the American economy growing stronger.
In addition to local, regional and national designations of Small Business Person of the year, the SBA recognizes a number of small business champions who have fulfilled a commitment to fostering small business growth. This year, Parkersburg’s Geni Arthur-Astorg, owner/publisher of A Woman’s View will be recognized as the West Virginia Women in Business Champion, for her commitment to the advancement of women’s business ownership, active support for legislative action to assist small businesses, efforts to increase business and financial opportunities for women and the advocacy of the women-owned business community.
The 2007 West Virginia award winners will be recognized at the annual Small Business Week Awards Banquet on Tuesday, May 15 at Embassy Suites in Charleston.
