Keeping Your Business In Focus

Whether you call it inflation, stagflation, recession, or whatever. What you want to call it is a reason to stay “focused” on your business. This is a time when you can be veered off track. Don’t let it happen to you!  Here are some ways to stay focused.

1.     Plan your day.

Then do what you planned. No exceptions. Use any planning system that works for you and you should be able to gain about two extra hours of productivity each day. At first it will seem awkward and it will seem to take more time, but if you use it each day, you will notice how much you are getting done. It’s a good feeling!

2.        Prioritize and Organize.

Prioritize what you absolutely need to accomplish each day. Some people do it the night before, others do it the morning of, but use what works best for you. Mark your priorities in RED and make sure to schedule them on your hourly time block. If they aren’t scheduled, then they will not get done.  Use common sense when prioritizing. Mark your calendar well in advance of routine and non-routine tasks. For example, if you have to pick your children up after school, mark that time off your calendar including travel time. Don’t plan a large meeting that may run over prior to your time you must leave to pick up the children. If you set your calendar in advance, you can schedule more appropriately. Then organize your day around your major priorities.

3.        Make every minute count.

Remember, your time is valuable. Very valuable! Make every minute count. This includes doing fun things. If you know you are going to have downtime, use it wisely. For example, if you have a doctor’s appointment and you know that there will be a wait time, take a book you are reading, some work you can do, or a notebook to jot down ideas for your kid’s birthday party.

4.        Make time each day to sell, market or network.

This is a hard one, but it is a must.  Keep your name out there, learn about new projects or developments that may tie in with your business, learn who is buying and working at businesses that may be of interest to you. Call at least 3-5 people to network each day. Take time to scan the local paper for leads for your product or service. And ask around to see who might be interested in your product or service. You will be pleasantly surprised.

5.        Keep your mind clear.

The endless list of things that we keep juggling in our minds. Although this is normal, it tends to exhaust you. It can keep you in stagnation. Learn to hold all your thoughts at bay while you concentrate on your priorities. It is difficult at first, but you will find that you can do things more efficiently with a clear mind.

These are just a few simple techniques to use to focus on your business and your life priorities.
