Lawn and Garden Expo
The 2006 Lawn and Garden Exposition will be held Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2, 2006, at the West Virginia Interstate Fair and Exposition Grounds near Mineral Wells, WV, just off I-77 Exit 170.
The exposition, sponsored by Little Kanawha and Buckeye Hills RC&D councils, is an opportunity to see and learn from experts and business owners about landscaping, garden care and lawn maintenance.
Workshops and exhibits will offer information about growing and caring for plants, equipment demonstrations, and other educational activities. Sponsors, vendors and master gardeners will be available to answer questions. The weekend long exposition includes opening ceremonies, guest speakers, children’s activities, demonstrations, concessions, indoor and outdoor activities, special events about wildlife and keynote speaker John Marra, the lawn and garden expert. Children can meet Smokey Bear, Eddie Eagle from the Department of Wildlife, and the Sno Biz Penguin.
Attendees are invited to enter the Expo gardening competitions, open to all ages. . According to spokeswoman Dina Braniff, “Live plants in decorative window boxes will be judged for the Ernestine Evans Boxes in Bloom Challenge. The Thelma Polling Creative Container Gardening Competition is the chance for gardeners to create unusual and artistic containers with live plants. And, for the Katie Schmitz Dried Flower Event, decorators can enter their most interesting dried flower arrangements.”
Participants should bring entries to the Fairgrounds Friday, March 31 between 4-7 to be eligible for the People’s Choice and Best in show awards. For more information, contact Dina Braniff, 422-4597
