Green Stuff
The pleasure of landscaping lies in the hands of the landscaper as well as the eyes of the beholder, but the benefits of landscaping extend far beyond the principals involved in the original plantings.
Landscaping improves the value of a home. The more attractive the landscaping, the more value is added. Nearby green spaces and parks improve property values, too.
Businesses are just beginning to appreciate some of the benefits of decorative plantings, like how interior plants save air conditioning costs. Psychologists have found that access to plants and green spaces provides a sense of rest and allows workers to be more productive. Employees with an outside view of plants report experiencing less job pressure. And, employees with an outside view of plants rate their job satisfaction level higher than those with no view.
In town, green space within a city’s boundaries help regulate air quality. In the country, proper landscaping reduces surface water runoff and reduces erosion.
Back at the house, trees shading homes can reduce attic temperatures as much as 40 degrees. Well-placed plantings offer privacy and tranquility by screening out busy street noises.
In the community, when landscaping is promoted, neighborhoods see a decrease in vandalism.
And, everywhere they grow, trees, shrubs and turfgrass remove smoke, dust and other pollutants from the air.
Green spaces create a better, safer environment for everyone. Make the world a better place today-plant something!
