Name Calling

The most popular dog name in North America is a variation of Sam, including Sammie or Samantha. The second most popular is a variation of Max, followed by Bear, Maggie and Buddy.

The other most popular names for female dogs are Lady, Molly, Sadie, Lucy, Daisy, Ginger, Abby, Sasha, Sandy, Dakota, Katie, Annie, Chelsea, Princess, Missy, Sophie, Bo and Coco and Tasha.
The other top names for male dogs are Jake, Bailey, Rocky, Buster, Casey, Cody, Duke, Charlie, Jack Harley, Rusty, Toby, Murphy, Shelby Sparky, Barney and Winston.

Brandy and Taffy didn’t make the top twenty, but they had a very respectable showing in many lists. Neither Fido, Rover nor Spot made anyone’s list. However, generally it is only registered dogs that contribute to dog name statistics, so scofflaws and rogues could call their dogs less popular names.
