May 4th –10th is National Pet Week. It’s a good time to make sure everyone is up on shots and heartworm prevention. Anyone without a pet is invited to address the deficiency at adopt-a-thons in Charleston and Parkersburg. The Humane Society of Parkersburg will celebrate with a special two-day adopt-a-thon on Saturday May 3, from 10-6 and on Sunday, from 12-5. There will be food, a raffle and a bake sale and plenty of kittens and puppies looking for happy homes. New parents will receive an additional $10 off the spay or neuter of their new pet.

The Kanawha/Charleston Humane Society will host their adopt-a-thon, May 10, from 10am-4pm. There will be $5 off the cost of adopting any new dog or cat. Charleston has kittens, kittens, kittens and enough puppies to share with good families.
Every dog has a day and this year it's on Saturday, June 7th at Parkersburg City Park. The Walk Your Paws event is the Humane Society of Parkersburg fundraiser for dogs and owners in the Mid-Ohio Valley is invited. It happens rain or shine starting with registration at 8:30 and festivities include a complimentary continental breakfast, the pet walk around the City Park, Pet Tricks, the Waggin’est Tail Contest, the ‘How ‘Bout Them Ears?’ Best ears competition, a People/Pet Look Alike Challenge, ongoing exhibits and more. There will be a people run that morning.

June 6, the night before, Chef Yancy Roush will prepare a New Orleans style dinner in honor of the Mardi Paws theme of this years Walk Your Paws. Seating begins a six, dinner at six thirty and there will be jazz music and beads for everyone to enjoy. Seating is limited, reservations may be made by calling 422-8088 or email to: crittersitter@zzzip.net.

The Humane Society of Parkersburg, at the corner of 29th and Poplar off Murdoch Avenue, is open Monday through Friday from 10-5 and Saturday from 10-4. Ph. 304-422-5541

The Kanawha/Charleston Humane Association, 1248 Greenbriar Street, is open 7 days a week, Monday through Saturday from 12-6 and on Sunday 12-5. Ph. 304-342-1576
