Stocking Stuffers at the Shelter

T’is the season for cold noses and warm hearts at the animal shelters.
The Parkersburg Humane Society will host a special “Home for the Holidays” adopt-athon on December 6, from 6PM –8PM. The adoption fee for dogs and puppies is $26.50. For cats and kittens, it is $18. All animals will be given their first shots and worming before adoption. New owners will receive $10 off their spay or neuter costs as an extra present.

Pet pictures with Santa were a hit last month; the photo finishes raised $1500 for the shelter. On December 7, pets will be on parade with animals and volunteers on the Humane Society float for the Parkersburg Christmas Parade. For the animals that don’t have a home for Christmas, the shelter would welcome gift cards from Wal-Mart or Sam’s, so they can buy the food and supplies they need for the winter. Or, Cindy says. “Paper towels. We need LOTS of paper towels!”

The Kanawha County Humane Association participants for the City of Charleston Parade, will be as cute as a red wagon with a puppy. Actually, it will be a bunch of red wagons with puppies. The Santa Paws Train, along with mascot K.C., will roll Saturday, December 7, at 10am.

Donna Clark, director, reminds everyone that a gift certificate for a pet can be a perfect present. “It’s the best way to let pets and people make sure they are right for each other. With a gift certificate you can give a present that will last a lifetime, and the recipient gets to pick out just the right size, shape and color.” She says for the holidays, they would like kitty litter and name brand puppy chow.

She says pets sometimes get forgotten in the holiday hustle, with lots of visitors and doors opening and closing. “Cats especially hate all the traffic and may wander outside. Tinsel and too much turkey make kitties sick, so, skip the aluminum icicles and go easy on the turkey and ham treats.”
Both shelters invite visitors to their home site for the holidays.
