Dismissing Pet Myths

The children were nestled all snug in their beds while visions of sausages danced in their heads.

Dry noses have nothing to do with a dog’s health. A dog with a dry nose just has a dry nose.

A cat that has lost its whiskers doesn’t lose its balance. Cats do use their whiskers as "feelers," but not to maintain balance

Dogs can tell colors- sometimes. It depends on which dog. Dogs can distinguish colors, but not as well as humans. Different types of dogs tend to see different colors.

Cats may have nine lives, but they are not immune to rabies. Cats, like other warm-blooded mammals, can carry rabies, too. They should be vaccinated regularly.

Dogs rather like the flavor of garlic added to their food, but it won’t help their health. And it doesn’t help prevent worms.

Dogs don’t heal themselves by licking a wound. A small amount of licking can help clean the wound, but excessive licking can actually slow down the healing process and further damage the animal's wound. (Not to mention leaving a bad taste in the mouth!)
