Fashion Expert Always One Step Ahead

If you want to know what is happening with fashion, then ask an expert.   That expert would be Carolyn Glore, owner of Carolyn’s Touch of Difference, in Parkersburg, WV.  For eighteen years, Carolyn has been the queen of what’s hot and what’s not in all areas of women’s fashions.  Carolyn’s store has one of a kind, specialty selections of all types of fashions and has “one to a size’ fashions so no one will be wearing the same thing you are wearing.

“If there was every a business that is constantly changing, it is the fashion business,” said Carolyn.   “There is always hot trends and ‘must haves’ for each season.  What’s hot, hot, hot right now is polka dots and the nautical theme.  Hot colors for this spring season are navy, yellow, lime green and turquoise,” she said.   “We are seeing a mixture of items that women are buying this season.   Pant suits and business dresses are important items this spring.  Shoes are bright – greens, turquoises, orange & pink together, silver, and gold.  Dress shoes are open or peep toe this season.  Continuing as a mainstay for the last few years is capris.   This year the look is mix and match separates – lots of jackets, pants, capris, tanks, and sweater sets,” she continued.

“Jewelry is still going to the big pieces, although not as much ‘bling’ as we saw last year at this time.  Jewelry pieces are somewhat toned down for spring.  However, we are seeing lots of brights like greens and turquoises,” she added.

Carolyn is right in the mist of prom season.   “Most of the local proms are scheduled for April this year.  We have been very, very busy, but we still have plenty of sensational gowns available.   Most of the young ladies are either going with the ball gowns or the straight gowns.  It is really about 50/50.  One of the dreamiest colors for the prom this spring is brown,” she explained.

“Of course, denim is always a must have for all seasons.   Customers are coming into the store to get ready for their spring/summer cruises and vacations.  Most are looking for casual wear that is easy to pack and doesn’t wrinkle.  We have a lot of four piece sets that are perfect for summer traveling.  These four piece sets have been flying out of the store.  We are selling a lot of jackets, shorts, and tank tops also.    For those women who are going on cruises for the spring/summer, they are also picking out their evening/dinner gowns.   We have a wide array of different types of evening/dinner gowns that are especially fitting for the formal dinner and dancing while cruising”.

“We are carrying a special type of religious purse.  These are purses that are canvas and have scripture verses on them.  They are very strong sellers right now,” she added.

One of Carolyn’s specialties is wedding party attire.   “There are usually more weddings right after January and continuing through the spring and summer and another surge during October for weddings.  The trend this spring/summer is strapless.  We continue to see brides planning a lot of designation weddings.   Brides want something that fits in with their designation.  Those who are planning beach or surfside weddings are usually looking for something very simple.  A major trend that we are seeing is the change over from pure white bridal gowns to candlelight ivory gowns.  We are also seeing color added to the bridal gown usually in an elaborate design or embroidery,” she commented.

“I am a perfectionist about having everything just right for someone’s wedding.   We dye the shoes here so they are a perfect match.  We like to match all the attire of the bridal party – bride, groom, mothers of the brides, flower girl and all the other attendants.  It is always fun to be part of the excitement of a wedding,” she smiled.

For anyone who every asked the question, “what should I wear?”, then we have the answer – Ask Carolyn!
