Steps to Look Young Again

As board certified female family practice physician, Dr. Samia Turner wants to help women look younger. Dr. Turner has opened her office, a medical spa, in Cross Lanes, West Virginia.

“When I was completing my residency training I took advantage of learning everything I could about cosmetic medicine.  I was attracted to this type of medicine and it made me feel good that I could actually practice the art of medicine and help women look and feel younger and increase their self-esteem,” she said.

“I opened my medical spa doors in November, 2007. I had just finished my residency and given birth to my son and I told my husband that I wanted to be able to spend time with my son and work in the cosmetic end of medicine,” she added.  “When I did my first two years of residency training I was in Denver, Colorado. Medical spas there are very common. I wanted to bring that same type of feeling and practice back to my home state of West Virginia. And, I wanted to be a good Mom and a good physician.” Dr. Turner is from a very large medical family that are all located in or near Cross Lanes, West Virginia and while she was in training, she met and married her husband, also a family practice physician.

“In my office spa, I offer hair removal, acne treatments, skin rejuvenation, vein treatments, wrinkle reductions, microdermabrasion, skin tightening, chemical peels and hair restoration surgeries. My husband and I do hair transplant surgery on Saturdays for my patients,” she explained. “Hair restorative surgery for just one patient takes all day. We do this for both male and female patients.  We do a pre-op the night before with the patient. We measure the hair density at the back of the head and count how many hair follicles we need. The next day we remove approximately 800 – 2700 hair follicles and transplant each one individually into the areas of the scalp that needs replenished with growing hair. Each hair has to be dissected under a microscope, and then surgically implanted microscopically. It is very detailed and takes a great deal of time to have it perfectly done to achieve a natural result,” Dr. Turner explained.  According to Dr. Turner, wrinkle removal is also possible by using the laser.  The laser is used to stimulate collagen which makes the skin tighter and younger looking.
Along with the above procedures, Dr.  Turner is able to do hair removal from the face, chin, arms, legs, underarms, and bikini area similar to waxing, but her procedure makes it permanent. This is done in 5-8 treatments with the laser and radiofrequency. This procedure permanently removes the hair after a few treatments.

Dr. Turner also has available Botox, Restylane, and microdermabrasion, as well as a laser that can remove sun damage (sun spots, age spots). However, Dr.  Turner is adamant about the importance of a regular skin care program. She highly recommends to all her patients that they be on a diligent skin care regime, including a daily sunscreen. She offers a full line of prescription skin care and make-up at her office as well.

Dr. Turner reminds everyone that it is not too late to make a huge difference in your skin. “If you are happy with your face, then you will have more self-confidence,” she added.
Dr. Samia Turner is a family practice physician specializing cosmetic medicine. She is the owner of Turner Medical Spa located at 816 Cross Lanes Drive, Cross Lanes, WV, 25313.
