New Mom & Obstetrician

Rose FisherDr. Lisa Casalenuovo with baby Lauren Elizabeth

When Dr. Lisa Casalenuovo says to her patients who are mothers-to-be that she understands what they are feeling, she really means it.   Dr. Casalenuovo is a new mom herself.   Her daughter, Lauren Elizabeth, was born on March 8, 2008.  Little Lauren is Dr. Casalenuovo’s  first child.

“I had planned on a natural birth, but when my baby was in distress, my only option was to have my labor induced to safeguard the health of my little girl,” she said.   “I always tell my patients that every person’s experience during pregnancy and delivery is different and no matter how many children you have had, each pregnancy is different,” she added.   “No book, no internet site, no story from your mother or grandmother can ever really prepare you for pregnancy, delivery and motherhood.  These resources can give you general guidelines, but no one is really prepared,” she added.

As all physicians, especially OB/GYNs, Dr. Casalenuovo’s practice is very busy. Dr. Casalenuovo  was only off two weeks after her delivery.  “I had patients that needed me.  I had women who were ready to deliver.  I really care about each and every one of my patients and it was important to me to be with them as quickly as I could after giving birth,” she noted.

Dr. Casalenuovo received her undergraduate degree in Wisconsin, went to medical school in Iowa, and did her residency in Ohio.   “I really liked the Ohio area, but I had made plans to either start my practice in Chicago or New York.  But, as fate would have it, I met my future husband and began my practice in West Virginia.   My husband is a financial advisor who has his office in Athens, OH.  We live in between his job and my job near Coolville, OH.  I am happy having my own practice and being affiliated with Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.  I am able to be there for my patients, but also have a somewhat flexible schedule to be able spend time with my family.  Women have so much pressure on them either way - if they work or if they stay home.  I found myself in the same situation.   I’m not just a doctor and I’m not just a mom and wife.  I am both and I am proud and happy to be a doctor, a mother, and a wife,” she confided.

Our congratulations on this Mother’s Day to all A Woman’s View readers who are mothers and our special congratulations to Dr. Casalenuovo as she begins her journey as a “good new mom” for Lauren Elizabeth.

Dr. Casalenuovo is an OB/GYN physician located at 801 Garfield Avenue, Suite 200, Parkersburg, WV 26101. Telephone:  304 424 2165.
