"Mama, I'm Home"
Rose Fisher

Mothers are very special people and "mama" or "mamaw" is an endearing sound to hear as a woman. Rose Fisher’s daughter, Denise, would call out “mamaw, I’m here” as a toddler, inspiring the title of a song on Rose's newly released album. “When my daughter was born, it seemed like my mother had a rebirth. She just came alive when she was with Denise. When we would drive to my mother’s house, my daughter would jump out of the car and run to Mom’s door and yell as loud as she could, ‘Mamaw, I’m here!’ My mother’s eyes would sparkle with joy as soon as she saw little Denise. These precious moments and Mom's incredible love for my daughters and all of her grandchildren sparked something inside of me that created a very special song called, 'Mama, I’m Home,'” she said. “Most people can remember coming home from school knowing that their mama was going to be home to greet them and listen to their day. I can always call and talk with my mom. The bond is so very special between a mother and child. I wrote the song from the standpoint that whatever's going on, good, bad or indifferent, most of us want to talk to Mom about it,” she continued.
Beautiful, exuberantly full of life, and thankful for her calling, Rose Fisher is an expert at capturing the essence of true meaning of life in her songs. “I began singing as a toddler. My dad sang and played the guitar. Mom says that Dad taught me to sing ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ by the time I was about 3. Shortly after that, however, both of my parents were saved and began to teach me songs about Jesus. When I was nine, I started playing the piano by ear and taking piano lessons at the same time. I am the oldest of five children, all singers, and that's how Mom and Dad raised us through our teenage years: we traveled and sang all across the eastern United States on the weekends,” Rose explained. "It was a unique, priceless experience!"
Rose, a composer and performer, sings as a solo artist at funerals, revivals, weddings, receptions, and parties. She has written dozens of songs and has produced her first solo CD with songs she has written such as: Mama, I’m Home; Coal Miner’s Bible; ETD (Estimated Time of Departure); Walking on The Danger; The End of Me; and Going Home to Live.
Along with being a published song writer and sought after singer, Rose says that she now is a SPUD (Single Person Urban Dweller). As you can tell, she has a funny side to her also. This SPUD lives in Charleston, West Virginia and is a legal secretary for Spilman, Thomas & Battle, PLLC, a large law firm in Charleston. “I was a stay at home mom for a period in my life, then I became a Home Interiors displayer, and then an insurance sales agent, on the road a lot. By that time I was divorced with two small children and I told my boss that I needed a 9 to 5 job so I could spend more time with my children. He told me to call his sister, the office manager of a small law firm in Charleston. It happened that she was in need of a full time secretary. I went in for the interview. They liked me and I liked them, and I began working that day. I worked for them for three years, then went to the largest law firm in the state for a couple of years, then back to the small firm to take the retiring office manager's place for the next ten years. In 2004 I moved to a medium-sized firm for a year and a half, but found my true place at Spilman, Thomas and Battle,” she commented. “I will be with them two years this coming August. I love what I do at the firm and I really respect all the attorneys and staff there. It is a big family and I feel so blessed to be able to work there,” she continued.
For years, Rose resisted going solo with her artistry, as she describes herself as a "harmony junkie." But she kept gravitating toward singing on her own. She said, “There's a security in singing with a group, especially if you're having a rough time vocally and need someone else to pick up the slack. At the same time, you're dealing with someone else's agenda and someone else's spiritual leading, and you're not always free to follow what you believe God wants done at the moment. I'm a huge believer in not having a set program (other than jotting down a few notes as a guide, usually), because I don't know ahead of time who will be in the audience and what he or she will need to hear. And it's all about that - ministering to people as they are, at the point of their need. I do some work with soundtracks, but really enjoy just sitting at the piano, interacting with the audience and making it more "personal" than "performance." So yes, now I love singing on my own, recording with some of the finest musicians and backup vocalists I've ever met, and getting to know some quite interesting people everywhere I go.”
Rose has many, many stories of how her music has touched people’s lives. Rose’s song, a tribute to her mother and daughter, can be an inspiration to all of us who are celebrating with our mothers this Mother’s Day.
