Volunteer Opportunities

Many non-profit organizations need your talent and skills. Listed below are some current volunteer opportunities:

CAN YOU SPARE TWO HOURS A WEEK TO HELP AN ELDERLY PERSON IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD? Volunteers are needed to mow lawns for elderly people. Adopt one or two and care for their lawns from now through October.

ARE YOU FREE TO VOLUNTEER JUNE 20 -22? A local agency is seeking volunteers to help with many aspects of their annual festival including moving supplies, distributing brochures, and working at their refreshment booth.

VOLUNTEER ON AN ISLAND THIS SUMMER: Volunteers are needed to conduct tours and work in a gift shop. Training is provided.

BOX OFFICE HELP NEEDED: A local theater group is seeking volunteers to use phones and make change in their box office on certain Tuesdays through Fridays from 11:00am to 2:00pm.

WOULD YOU ENJOY HELPING CHILDREN WITH CRAFTS ACTIVITIES? A local agency is seeking volunteers to assist with their children's activity center during their festival June 20 -22.

CAN YOU SPARE 20 MINUTES TO PUT A BRIGHT SPOT IN A SENIOR CITIZEN'S DAY? Volunteers are needed to visit and/or read to the residents of a local nursing home.

HELP A FAMILY IN NEED: A local agency is seeking the donation of a refrigerator and an electric stove for a family unable to afford them.

AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THOSE 60 YEARS AND OLDER: Become a senior companion provide assistance and companionshiop to other senior citizens.

CAN YOU COMMIT TO EIGHT WEEKS OF SERVICE THIS SUMMER? Sign up to be a volunteer coordinator with a reading and nutrition program for school-age children. Training is provided, as well as a stipend and education award.

CAKE BAKER NEEDED: A local agency focusing on youth is seeking someone who can bake and decorate a cake for a youth event on June 20 (West Virginia's birthday. The cake should feed 100+ people.

CAN YOU QUILT OR ARE YOU INTERESTED IN QUILTING? A local group is seeking quilters and quilters' helpers to make "comfort quilts" to be donated to the families of soldiers missing in action. Helpers will sort, press, cut, trim and generally assist the project.

DO YOU LOVE KITTENS, BUT DON'T WANT THE LONG-TERM RESPONSIBILITY OF A CAT? Become a foster parent for kittens. You will care for newborn or very young kittens until they are about 8 weeks old, weaned, and stong enough to be transported to a larger shelter care facility, where they will be spayed/neutered and adopted.

CAN YOU SPARE ONE OR TWO DAYS THIS MONTH TO DO YARD WORK? A local agency is looking for a volunteer to do some yard work - weeding and raking (no mowing) before the end of May.

ARE YOU FREE ON FRIDAY AFTERNOONS? A local library needs a volunteer to help with shelving and labeling books, making phone calls, and filling out forms. The volunteer is needed from 2:00 to 5:00pm on Fridays.
