Finding Balance 24/7

KimKim Wolfe

In this crazy, hectic world, what do all women want? Balance in their lives. Women dream of having it, but few women can say that they have created a system that allows them to have real balance. Most of us would envy Kim Wolfe.
Kim is the manager of the Grand Pointe Conference and Reception Center in Vienna, West Virginia. She also concurrently consults as a sales and marketing director for hotels in West Virginia, Ohio, Illinois, Missouri, Mississippi, and Indiana. Kim is also a newlywed of three months, a mother of two, and a grandmother of twin boys. She works out on a daily basis at her home gym, spends quality time with her family, devotes herself to her job, and has time to ride her Harley Davidson for fun.

“I can’t tell you there is some secret formula, because it doesn’t exist. I was born and raised in Vienna, WV. I worked hard for many, many years to move up to where I am today. There is no secret here – it was just plain hard work and determination. I had always been in sales and marketing and loved it. Then my current employer asked me to try my hand at management with the opening of the Grand Pointe Conference and Reception Center. I was rather hesitant because I had never managed before and the current hotel I was at was just newly opened and felt it needed my attention. My employer believed in me. So, I decided to give it a try and I am happy that I did. I love what I do and I love the management aspect of the business ... I truly enjoy working with people. People energize me. I feel very blessed to have all that I have now,” Kim explained.

“Now, I’m not saying that there are not issues that need to be dealt with every day. I guess I believe that the only way people grow is by overcoming challenges. This is probably why I have grown so much over the years,” she laughed. “My job is 24/7. Whereever I go, I am the sales person for the hotels and the Conference Center locally. Whomever I meet is a potentially new or existing client. Even when I fill up at the gas station, I have the opportunity take advantage of speaking with someone about the hotels and/or Conference Center. I am up and going by 7 a.m. every morning. I have learned to plan my day and then be flexible, because with so many things to juggle during the day, there is always going to be that problem needing to be solved quickly and efficiently. I can’t tell you that I have a typical day, because there are no typical days in what I do,” she said.

“I am very lucky to have a boss that believes that everyone needs to have a personal life. I love my career and want to do a great job. I also love my family and my friends and want to spend as much time with them as I can. At the end of a long day, I just need to have some personal down time to re-group and release the stresses of the day,” she continued.

“It has taken a lot of years to get to the point where I can say that I have a plan for balancing my life. The first thing that is important to balancing your life is to decide what your priorities really are. Next, understand that you need to be flexible in your schedule, activities, work, etc. Most importantly, get rid of the guilt. Take care of yourself, so you can be there for your family, friends, and your employer. You owe it to yourself to feel good about your life. Experiment with doing things differently, delegating, letting go, taking care of yourself, and concentrate on making your life one in which you can be happy and proud.

You don’t have to be a superwoman to have it all and be balanced in your life. I know I am not a superwoman, but I want my husband and family to think so,” she chuckled.

Kim suggests that you learn to take some time to pamper yourself. For Kim, pampering means spending time with her husband Bill, her twin grandchildren, Jaxton & Maddox, working out, kayaking or maybe getting a facial. She also enjoys taking at least two long vacations during the year.

“As for me, I am very happy with my life and balance is a key factor to my happiness,” she said.

Kim Evans Wolfe serves as manager for the Grand Pointe Conference and Reception Center in Vienna, West Virginia, and sales and marketing manager for several other properties. For information, call (304) 295-7007.
