Dedicated to Education

This issue of A Woman’s View is dedicated to Education. We are very proud to have the A+ women in our area who are leaders in their roles as educators. Role models such as Dr. Jo Harris, President of Community and Technical College at WVU Institute of Technology, Dr. Marie Gnage President of West Virginia University of Parkersburg, Sherri Becker the Business and Industry Training Manager for the Adult Technical Center, Kelly Dyar Blazosky, who went back and finished her Bachelor Degree, Linda Bush, Executive Director of the Putnam County Convention and Visitors’ Center who displays education in living history, to Nancy Herholdt who is the Education Manager for the West Virginia Cultural Center, we are extremely lucky to have this caliber of women living and teaching in our area.

The U.S. Department of Education shows that more than 92 million adults participated in adult education in the year 200l. That number increases every year. Classrooms are now being filled with female learners more than every before. We are seeing a change in the needs of the American woman and the global industry. Leadership is one key characteristic. As these leadership characteristics become the favored “communition style” for businesses, we will see the emergence of more female leaders and role models. Some characteristics becoming more apparent in business are having an independent mind-set, being willing to take a risk, the ability to have a balanced life, being creative and having entrepreneurial skills, intuition, integrity, social skills and communication sensitivity.

The featured articles show that education is paramount for career success. All these female achievers stress the importance of continual education. Many give their expert advice that they would give to their own daughter, granddaughter, niece, sister, mother or grandmother. Yes, grandmothers. Many of our mothers and aunts are going back to school, some to keep their minds active, some to take on a different role in retirement, and some for the challenge and keeping current in this day and age. We applaud them all! We are proud of the success we have seen within the women’s community that we serve.
