Sisters Donna Hickman and Debby Wilson celebrate life through creativity, something they learned from their mother Ruth Glover. The sisters grew up in an atmosphere full of creative events hosted by their mother and continue to share that same passion.

Donna and Debby said Ruth, who passed away nine years ago, “put a lot of care and detail into her celebrations,” and decided to do the same by focusing their talents into running a business together called Party Supplies & Creations, located at 1411 Suite 4 Grand Central Avenue, Vienna, West Virginia.

Two years ago the sisters opened their first store at 1515 Grand Central Avenue in honor of their parents, and in August they moved to 1411, expanding their square footage. “We feel proud that we were able to do as well as we’ve done in two years,” Donna said.

Donna, who is also chairman of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce said a lot of businesses are now struggling to make it because of the economy. “We feel really blessed that in two years we are already able to expand,” she said.
Donna said their new location now gives them 3,000 square feet of space. The sisters also plan on opening more stores in the future.

Aside from increasing space, Donna said the store has also increased some of their themes as well. The store specializes in creative items for wedding and anniversary receptions, baby showers, and other events.

For weddings and anniversaries, the store can provide balloon bouquets and arches. Donna said the store also carries Wilton cake baking supplies, boards and boxes. “We recently started the open shaped pan rentals,” she said. There are 85 cake pans to choose from and customers can choose from Disney, Holly Hobby, Yogi Bear and Nickelodeon themes, to name a few.

Donna said she and her sister went to a balloon school to learn how to do balloon walls, which are an 8 ft. by 8ft. solid wall of balloons. “We also do really unique balloon arches,” Donna said. The store also carries pacifier balloons, which are great for baby showers, she said.

Some more offbeat items the store carries include singing balloons and beehive, mullett, and afro wigs. Donna said the wigs go along with a “blast from the past” theme.

Customers can also choose from approximately 45 different colors of paper and plastic plates, napkins and accessories, Donna said. Ohio State and West Virginia themed plates, cups, napkins, and balloons are also available.

Donna was proud to mention that Party Supplies & Creations is one out of two dealers in the state of West Virginia to carry Tickelopes greeting cards, which are made of foam.

Debby said, “This is a great business for this area because people want special items for their parties and we’re able to help them find just the right things.”

Party Supplies & Creations is open 10:30 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Saturday.
