Ho, Ho, Ho…Off We Go…Yes, to the Gym!
In October of 2006, Jodi Whisnant, was casually driving down Grand Central Avenue in Vienna, WV, when out of the corner of her eye she saw what she thought was a woman’s fitness club soon to open. What does she do? She turns her car around and pulls into the parking lot, goes inside and becomes the manager of Apex Fitness for Women. Wow!
A fitness buff since she was 18 years old, becoming manager of a dedicated women’s health club was perfect for her. “I think that women feel more at ease in a women’s health club,” Jodi commented.
“Women are normally self conscious about their bodies and very few women think that their bodies are perfect,” she added.
“Everyone needs to have at least 20-30 minutes of cardio 2-3 times per week. Cardio exercise can be in the form of walking, riding a bike, low impact aerobics, dancing, etc,” she added. “There are many kinds of low impact activities for women.”
“Also at the Club is an infrared sauna, exercise equipment especially designed for women, treadmills, exercise bikes, a step master, and all sizes of weights. Classes in pilates, yoga, hoola dancing, and step dancing are scheduled frequently during the week. For toning there are balls, bands, and free weights. All the trainers at the Club are certified trainers,” Jodi explained.
“If that doesn’t sound fun, then you might want to try the Club’s new Zomba Latin Dance Class or the Desperate Housewife’s stripper class with exotic dancing as a form of exercise. Women love these classes. They are fun. The women really get a good workout and they laugh and have fun with each other. It is something that most women would not ordinarily do. I believe some of them even try it out when they get home,” she smiled.
There is a program called “Team Weight Loss” that is available as a weight loss partner program. “It is a 12 week program with weight loss supplements, a food plan, food journal, and a suggested exercise plan,” Jodi explained. According to Jodi, the Club conducted a 2l day fitness study and the results were an average of 9 pounds lost in 21 days. We also have a ‘Body Bugg’. It is like a pedometer, but it measures show many calories you burn in a day by monitoring the heat from your body. You can wear the ‘Body Bugg’ all day long except when you are in the shower. The ‘Body Bugg’ is available for purchase or for lease.
Jodi says that “moderation is the key to most things. You have to stay motivated and you have to make time for yourself. Women need to think more about staying healthy. “And besides”, she said, “exercise is a great stress reducer.”
Jodi suggests that instead of giving the traditional chocolates, candies, cookies, and or sweet treats this holiday season, give a health club membership instead. “Most women make a New Year’s Resolution to starting exercising and to loose weight. Help them make it happen!” says Jodi.
Jodi will be offering a special enrollment rate beginning in December. Jodi will have gift certificates available at the Club to help fill someone’s stocking.
