A dark and dreary kitchen can dull anyone’s ability to create a delightful meal.
Adding brightness to a kitchen can be achieved without replacing cabinetry. Depending on cost factors here are a few avenues to pursue in the quest for a brighter room! First, install under cabinet lighting with hi-low dimmers. Consider installing recessed lighting, to give overall lighting for task areas. Install a ceiling fixture that hangs down from the ceiling about 8” or more. This not only illuminates the area but reflects off the ceiling as well.
Then, lighten the walls. Light colors reflect, so choose wisely. Paint cabinetry, just keep in mind the upkeep on painted wood. Oil paints are best and most durable.
Consider a tile backsplash. It can create a focal point for any kitchen.
Add color with area rugs or add a colorful piece of artwork or hand decorative tiles on the back splash.
Another way to add color is with valances and window coverings.
Finally, use mirror on the backsplash to reflect light.
With any project, the details do matter. Assess each project carefully and use these suggestions as they may apply to your personality and budget. Just beware to select the right details to enhance, so a domino effect doesn’t result in remodeling the entire kitchen!
